Netflix's One Piece
Following Luffy on his quest to achieve his dream to become the King of the Pirates.
Knowing almost nothing about One Piece, I went into Netflix’s season one with zero expectations. I have never read the manga and never watched the anime, so I had no attachment to the story, the characters, or the world.
Maybe that is why it worked so well for me.
The show was just fun. It has adventure, humor, heart, and a cast that makes you want to keep following them wherever they end up next. The world feels big without being overwhelming, and every episode gave me another reason to keep watching.
My guess is that it was pretty well received in general, since I haven’t seen a large nerd uproar online.
I finished season one genuinely surprised by how entertained I was. I started as someone completely new to One Piece and ended it excited for season two.
